Location London (expenses will not be paid to or from London location)
Client Global tier 1 bank (investment banking, private banking, asset management)
Engagement model All PMOs engaged through Piscari Associates must work through their own limited company
Rate Circa Rate according to experience
Background The end client has a large number of London based IT projects which require experienced PMOs to support IT Project Managers for 6+ month contracts via Piscari Associates


Main duties & responsibilities

Role description

The PMO support resource will be responsible for supporting moderately complex IT projects and programs, typically at a departmental level.

Primary responsibilities

  • Managing project set-up from a project planning, space planning and time tracking perspective.
  • Establishing and maintaining project governance.
  • Under direction of the Project Manager, developing the consolidated project plans (work schedules, testing, quality, risk, communications etc) and other project initiation documents to ensure appropriate project setup.
  • Preparing project briefs for preliminary go/no go decision.
  • Managing all aspects of program tracking and management including work completed, work remaining and milestones achieved.
  • Defining, collecting, monitoring and analysing project metrics including cost, time, quality, resources and risk.
  • Monitoring and updating the project resource and cost plan.
  • Managing the issues list to ensure issues are documented and actioned as appropriate. Resolve issues where required.
  • Generating project status reports.
  • Managing the approval processes for the project, ensuring sign-off on deliverables.
  • Managing the change requests and integrating impacts into plans.
  • Supporting Project Manager to complete post implementation review.
  • Ensuring appropriate archiving of project documents at project close.
  • Scheduling, attending and running project meetings and documenting meeting minutes and action items.
  • Taking responsibility for quality assurance within the program by ensuring that Project Services methodologies, standards and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Effectively communicating with key project stakeholders on project progress and facilitating open information flows among project stakeholders.
  • Establishing credibility with all levels of IT management.

Skills & attributes

The candidate must have:
  • Banking or consultancy background (3-5 years+ experience) and an understanding of structured program management in the banking arena.
  • A proven track record of successfully supporting moderate complexity projects within a banking environment.
  • Ability to manage a moderately complex Portfolio or Project Management Office, typically at departmental level.
  • Proven organisational, leadership and management skills.
    • Ability to communicate effectively to senior managers.
    • Ability to produce clear, concise reporting.
  • Solid strategic analysis, problem solving, issue resolution and decision making skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to perform risk analysis and management.
  • Strong presentation development skills.
  • Strong communication skills, in listening, oral and written communication.
  • Proven ability to communicate appropriately with all levels of management in a clear, concise manner.
  • Proven ability to work in a team, taking into consideration alternate points of view.
  • Strong MS Office skills, including a good working knowledge of MS Outlook.
  • Strong MS Project Skills.
  • Experience of maintaining Sharepoint sites an advantage.

Education / professional qualifications

Essential: University under-graduate degree.
Desirable: PRINCE 2 or other structured program / project management qualifications.
Desirable: Worked with or for a large consultancy or IT services firm.
